Glare on the water under a clear sky, with light air out of the WSW and pressure ticking upward. The productive water at Kirkofer Lake will be around shallow cover and weed edges. The day fishes best from night into morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Kirkofer Lake is one of the Brown County waters in Indiana. Elevation runs to 817 feet. This is a pocket water of some 3 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. It is a small entry by Brown County standards. You are 8 miles from Nashville. Martinsville is 10 miles away, with Cordry Sweetwater Lakes at 12 miles. Two sets of local rules meet not far from this water.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The arms fish better than the open middle whenever the water is up. Rip-rap along the wall holds fish that the open bank never does. Survey and observation records for Brown County include bluegill, channel catfish, green sunfish, longear sunfish and white crappie. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. At Kirkofer Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Between January at about 27°F and July at about 74°F, the water has a wide range to work through. A lid forms in a hard winter only. It should never be assumed safe, whatever the month says. November and March are the quiet, comfortable months to be out. Anyone fishing Kirkofer Lake regularly works to that calendar.
The access position is unclear from public sources. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For the catfish, fish bottom baits into the deeper holes and let them sit. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. The nearest alternative is Bear Lodge Lake, 0.6 miles out. None of that is settled for Kirkofer Lake in what we hold.
