Dull, settled light over the water, with a faint ENE drift with the barometer flat. Give sheltered bays and points the first hour at Peck Lake. Plan around the stretch from afternoon into evening. Keep moving until you find them. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Peck Lake falls in Kane County, part of Illinois. The bank is 715 feet above sea level. Surface area runs to about 15 acres — small enough to read in one session. The town to know is Batavia, 2.7 miles out. Further out sit Geneva (3.2 miles) and St. Charles (4.2 miles). Within a short run: Nelson Lake just 2.5 miles, Mooseheart Lake at 2.8 miles, Foxcroft Lake just 5.7 miles, Lake Campton at 6.6 miles and Lake Law just 7.3 miles. This one is safely inside the county line.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Survey and observation records for Kane County include bluegill, green sunfish and largemouth bass. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. At Peck Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Climate records put July near 73°F and January near 20°F. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Winter locks it down, and late March brings it back. From about late March to around mid December, expect open water on the long-run figures. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. It sets the rhythm of the year at Peck Lake.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. A car park sits roughly half a mile away. A platform or pier sits within half a mile. Toilets are half a mile away, which matters on a long session. Mill Creek Forest Preserve takes in this water; protected-area rules will apply. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Failing this one, try Nelson Lake, 2.5 miles away. None of that is settled for Peck Lake in what we hold.
