Clear overhead with good moonlight, with air barely moving and a rising glass. Expect most activity at Lake Law around sheltered bays and points. Plan around the stretch from night into morning. Keep moving until you find them. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lake Law sits in DuPage County, out in Illinois. It lies 725 feet above sea level. Surface area is around 52 acres, which gives you real water without needing a boat. There is roughly 1.5 miles of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Size puts it in the front rank of our DuPage County list. Supplies mean a trip to Warrenville, 3 miles off. Further out sit West Chicago (3.5 miles) and Winfield (3.8 miles). A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Held water runs deepest at the wall and shallows back to the inflow. The arms fish better than the open middle whenever the water is up. DuPage County records list bluegill, green sunfish and common carp among the fish reported. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Lake Law the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Averages here run 74°F at the top of summer and 21°F at the bottom of winter. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late March. Averages suggest open water from about late March through to roughly mid December. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lake Law.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Parking sits half a mile out, which makes for a walk with tackle. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. The nearest alternative is Sand Pond, 2.4 miles out. The position on Lake Law is worth confirming on the day.
