Stars out and no cloud tonight, with the water lying quiet and pressure on the rise. The productive water at Killarney Lake will be around sheltered bays and points. The forecast backs the stretch from the day. Ride the conditions while they last. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Killarney Lake falls in Kootenai County, part of Idaho. Land around it is farm and woodlot. It measures some 502 acres, and wind has room to build across it. With 6.0 miles or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. It is low-lying compared with other Idaho water we list. For supplies, Saint Maries is 14 miles out. Coeur d'Alene follows at 15 miles, then Pinehurst at 15 miles. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Species logged across Kootenai County include rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, sockeye salmon and channel catfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Fish Killarney Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Typical August readings run about 65°F; by January the average is down near 29°F. Some winters cap it and some do not. It is not guaranteed even in a cold spell, so check yourself. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Killarney Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. A platform or pier sits within half a mile. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Medicine Lake at 3.6 miles is the sensible second choice. Nothing on Killarney Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
