Thin cloud passing over the water tonight, with a light SW breeze and pressure on the rise. Most of the action on Keokee Lake should come off windblown banks where food collects. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. A properly cold day, so expect slow, deliberate fishing.

You will find Keokee Lake in Bonner County, Idaho. This is pine and birch country. At roughly 6 acres, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Start from Ponderay, 9.8 miles down the road. Further out sit Sandpoint (11 miles) and Priest River (20 miles). The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Fish documented in Bonner County include rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, sockeye salmon and brook trout. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Keokee Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
The seasonal spread runs 22°F to 60°F. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Break-up comes around mid April, and the run that follows is short and strong. On the long-run averages the water opens up around mid April and starts locking again about late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. At Keokee Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Caribou Lake, 0.9 miles away. For Keokee Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
