Flat light and a covered sky today, with next to no ripple with a settled glass. Expect most activity at Spring Lake around reed fringes and open pockets. Everything points to the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

The Cobb County end of Georgia holds Spring Lake. Everything around it is oak and grass. At roughly 9 acres, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. For supplies, Roswell is 2.5 miles out. The big place round here is Sandy Springs, 6.2 miles distant. Rules can differ a short way off, since the county line is near.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The arms fish better than the open middle whenever the water is up. Held water runs deepest at the wall and shallows back to the inflow. Nearby survey and observation records mention bluegill, brown trout, shoal bass and redbreast sunfish. Presence in the area does not guarantee a fish on the day. The shape of Spring Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
The year swings from about 41°F in January to roughly 79°F in July. The awkward stretch is midsummer, not midwinter. March through May is the strongest run, with autumn a second stretch. Spring and autumn carry the year; summer squeezes it into the ends of the day. On Spring Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
No access rule appears in what we hold. There is somewhere to leave the car, half a mile off. A platform or pier sits within 140 yards. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Failing this one, try Pine Grove Road Lake, 1.2 miles away. For Spring Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
