A clear night sky over the water, with a faint NE drift with the barometer flat. Smith Lake should fish best around the shaded margin through bright spells today. The day fishes best from night into morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Night
Smith Lake falls in Jefferson County, part of Georgia. The surface lies 226 feet up. Roughly 25 acres: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. It is low-lying compared with other Georgia water we list. Some 3.5 miles away sits Wadley, the nearest settlement. Then Louisville, 7.4 miles, and Davisboro, 15 miles. Local rules may differ a few miles either side of here.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Draw-down through summer strips the margins, so follow the water out. Look for where the old bank line still shows under the surface. Fish Smith Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep. Standing timber shows when the level drops, and fish sit against it.
Typical July readings run about 81°F; by January the average is down near 46°F. Winter is the comfortable season here rather than the difficult one. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer squeezes it into the edges of the day. April and May are the settled weeks, with October close behind. Smith Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Failing this one, try Weeks Lake, 1.7 miles away. None of that is settled for Smith Lake in what we hold.
