A clear night sky over the water, with dead-still conditions and pressure sitting still. The water to cover at Shawnee Lake is the margins and the shelf beyond them. The productive run goes night into morning. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Shawnee Lake belongs to Douglas County, Georgia. This is pine and hardwood ground. Small at around 15 acres: two anglers spread out cover most of it. On our Douglas County list it sits near the top for size. 2.2 miles away sits Douglasville, the nearest town. South Fulton is the closest city, 11 miles away. You are close to a county edge here; who manages the access can change within a short drive.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Standing timber shows when the level drops, and fish sit against it. A reservoir gives you a hard edge, a shelf, and not much else. Fish reported in the area, according to open records, include yellow bullhead, blackbanded darter, bluegill, greater jumprock and redbreast sunfish. That is what has been logged nearby, not a stocking list, so check local rules before you plan around any one species. Shawnee Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Climate normals give 78°F for July and 42°F for January. Long warm spells define the calendar more than any cold. October and November give a second good stretch as it cools. February into May fishes hardest as the water warms. Anyone fishing Shawnee Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. The nearest mapped parking is half a mile away, so the last stretch is on foot. For the catfish, fish bottom baits into the deeper holes and let them sit. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. If the gate is shut, Leatherwood Lake at 1.7 miles is the nearest alternative. For Shawnee Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
