A still, cloudless night on the water, with an easy breeze from the NE and the barometer on the way down. On Mceachin Lake, work the seam between weed and open water first. The best of it runs night into morning. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Mceachin Lake is one of the Telfair County listings for Georgia. Height above sea level is 194 feet. This is a pocket water of some 8 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Georgia listings. McRae is the closest town at 9.7 miles. The big place round here is Savannah, 105 miles distant. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. A reservoir gives you a hard edge, a shelf, and not much else. Held water runs deepest at the wall and shallows back to the inflow. Public wildlife records from this area list American eel, bluegill, dollar sunfish and flathead catfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. At Mceachin Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Typical July readings run about 81°F; by January the average is down near 48°F. The surface stays open the year round. Heat pushes fish deep from June onwards, so start early. Spring and autumn carry the year; summer squeezes it into the ends of the day. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Mceachin Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Walkers Pond at 1.4 miles is the sensible second choice. Rules at Mceachin Lake are worth checking on the day.
