An even grey lid over the water, with a light SE breeze with the barometer flat. Give any feature that breaks the open water the first hour at Hills Pond. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Hills Pond is a Burke County water, Georgia side. Everything around it is dry hill. It covers about 8 acres, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Waynesboro sits 11 miles from the bank. Then Louisville, 12 miles, and Wrens, 16 miles. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout. Trees come down to the water on one side more than the other.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. Rip-rap along the wall holds fish that the open bank never does. Draw-down through summer strips the margins, so follow the water out. Species logged nearby in open biodiversity records include dollar sunfish, redfin pickerel and coastal shiner. It reflects what has been logged, which depends on who was looking. Work Hills Pond in sections rather than trying to cover it.
On the long-term average, July reads 81°F and January reads 46°F. Winter is a mild inconvenience here, nothing more. Late winter and spring fish steadiest here. June to September is hot work, so the first and last hours are what count. On Hills Pond the same rules apply, with local timing.
We hold no note on access for this one. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. McCullough Millpond at 6.8 miles is the sensible second choice. For Hills Pond, the notice at the access point is the final word.
