Not a cloud worth mentioning today, with a light chop building from the NNW with the glass slipping lower. The productive water at Star Lake will be around the weed line and any gaps in it. The strongest window runs from the day. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

The Alachua County end of Florida holds Star Lake. Height above sea level is 92 feet. Around 229 acres of surface means several distinct areas to work. Bank access stretches around 2.6 miles in total. The town to know is Hawthorne, 5.4 miles out. Citra follows at 9 miles, then Interlachen at 11 miles. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Nearby survey and observation records mention bluegill, blackbanded darter, spotted sunfish and brown darter. Local agencies hold the definitive list for this water. Star Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
The seasonal spread runs 55°F to 81°F. Every month fishes, though midsummer narrows the useful hours. Shade and hour of day matter more than month. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. On Star Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Bluegill and other panfish take small jigs or worms under a float near any cover. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. The nearest alternative is Riley Lake, 0.6 miles out. Where Star Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
