Open sky and sharp air tonight, with light air out of the NE and pressure ticking upward. Fish at Lake Wimico should hold close to the shaded margin through bright spells. The strongest window runs from night into morning. Stay mobile and follow the activity. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Gulf County, Florida, is where Lake Wimico sits. This is warm bottomland ground. At roughly 6.3 sq miles it ranks among the larger waters in the region. Some 15 miles of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. It ranks among the bigger water on our Florida list. Port Saint Joe at 9.3 miles is the nearest place to stop. After that come Apalachicola at 11 miles and Eastpoint at 17 miles. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Records collected within a few miles name bluegill, largemouth bass, redear sunfish, spotted bullhead and spotted sunfish. That is what has been logged nearby, not a stocking list, so check local rules before you plan around any one species. Fish Lake Wimico to its features, not to its size.
On the long-term average, July reads 82°F and January reads 53°F. Summer is the season to work around, not winter. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer squeezes it into the edges of the day. June to September is hot work, so the first and last hours are what count. The season on Lake Wimico follows the weather closely.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Should this one be busy, Wright Lake is 16 miles off. Confirm access to Lake Wimico locally before you travel.
