Cloud coming and going through the night, with a busy NE wind on the open water with the glass holding level. The fish at Lake Ida are likely to sit near the first drop-off and weed lines. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Florida holds Lake Ida, in Polk County. Height above sea level is 144 feet. The water measures roughly 17 acres, so nothing here is far from anything else. On size it sits at the modest end of our Polk County list. The closest town, Winter Haven, is 2 miles away. Inwood follows at 2.2 miles, then Lake Alfred at 2.9 miles. Rules here are straightforward: one county, one set of rules.
We hold no depth figure for this one. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Documented catches and surveys in the area cover black crappie, bluegill and bowfin. Use it to know what is possible here, not what is certain. Fish Lake Ida where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Seasonal averages run from 61°F in January up to 82°F in August. The year runs unbroken and warm. Heat pushes fish deep from June onwards, so start early. February into May fishes hardest as the water warms. Lake Ida fishes to that pattern most years. Warm rain lifts activity; cold rain flattens it.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Bluegill and other panfish take small jigs or worms under a float near any cover. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lake Hartridge at 0.7 miles is the sensible second choice. Rules at Lake Ida are worth checking on the day.
