A clear night sky over the water, with a busy NE wind on the open water with the glass on the way up. The fish at Lake Gibson are likely to sit near the seam between weed and open water. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Lake Gibson in Lake County, Florida. The setting is warm bottomland on every side. Surface area is around 72 acres, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Roughly 1.1 miles of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Umatilla is the closest town at 1.5 miles. Orlando sits 33 miles out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Two sets of local rules meet not far from this water.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Documented catches and surveys in the area cover largemouth bass, bluegill, Florida gar, redear sunfish and black crappie. Reporting is uneven, so absence from the list means little. Lake Gibson fishes better once you know its edges.
Expect July to average close to 81°F, with January the cold end at about 58°F. The water stays warm and open throughout. Heat pushes fish deep from June onwards, so start early. Autumn steadies things again once the heat lets go. Lake Gibson runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The closest car park is half a mile away, so pack accordingly. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Failing this one, try Lake Pearl, 0.6 miles away. Check the position at Lake Gibson before loading the car.
