A clean, cloudless night over the water, with a consistent blow out of the NE with a firming glass. Fish at Halfmoon Lake should hold close to points where shallow meets deep. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Halfmoon Lake is a Marion County water, Florida side. The water sits 43 feet up. It measures some 336 acres, and wind has room to build across it. There is roughly 3.5 miles of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. It ranks high for size among our Marion County listings. Silver Springs Shores at 12 miles is the nearest place to stop. The big place round here is Gainesville, 45 miles distant. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged nearby in open biodiversity records include bluegill, largemouth bass, redear sunfish and warmouth. Presence in the area does not guarantee a fish on the day. At Halfmoon Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Expect July near 81°F and January near 56°F on the long-run figures. Cold never shuts this water down; heat is the only limit. Season rules are a separate question. October and November give a second good stretch as it cools. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. Expect Halfmoon Lake to follow that timing.
The access position is unclear from public sources. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Mill Dam Lake, 1.9 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the current arrangement for Halfmoon Lake.
