A still, cloudless night on the water, with a light chop building from the NE and the barometer heading up. Most of the action on Gin Lake should come off reed fringes and open pockets. The useful hours run night into morning. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Florida holds Gin Lake, in Washington County. It lies 144 feet above sea level. Around 78 acres of surface means several distinct areas to work. With about 1.4 miles of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Compared with other Florida water on our list, it sits high. Head to Chipley, 14 miles away, for anything you forgot. Youngstown follows at 16 miles, then Bonifay at 17 miles. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Nearby survey and observation records mention bluegill, chain pickerel, swamp darter, dollar sunfish and largemouth bass. That is what has been logged nearby, not a stocking list, so check local rules before you plan around any one species. On Gin Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Long-run averages give July about 81°F and January about 50°F. Winter is simply the pleasant end of an unbroken season. Late winter and spring fish steadiest here. June to September is hot work, so the first and last hours are what count. Gin Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Public data does not answer the access question here. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. If the gate is shut, Gap Lake at 2.1 miles is the nearest alternative. Check the current arrangement for Gin Lake.
