Not a cloud worth mentioning today, with just enough NNW wind to ripple the surface as pressure slides. The water to cover at East Lake is any hard bottom among the soft. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

East Lake sits in Putnam County, out in Florida. This is warm bottomland country. It covers about 14 acres, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. On size it sits at the modest end of our Putnam County list. Supplies mean a trip to Interlachen, 4.3 miles off. Gainesville is the closest city, 22 miles away. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Species logged nearby in open biodiversity records include bluegill, largemouth bass and warmouth. That is what has been logged nearby, not a stocking list, so check local rules before you plan around any one species. At East Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
July runs about 81°F on average, January about 55°F. Summer is the season to work around, not winter. The first and last hours carry the summer; the middle is slow. February into May fishes hardest as the water warms. East Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out. Autumn cools the shallows first, so work deeper as it goes on.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. West Lake at 0.4 miles is the sensible second choice. Check the position on East Lake before loading the car.
