Clear air and long views across the water tonight, with a persistent wind from the NNE and no real change in pressure. Whatever swims in Rock Pond should be near whatever cover the water offers. The strongest window runs from the day. Stay mobile and follow the activity. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

The Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region end of Connecticut holds Rock Pond. Open valley runs right down to the water. This is a pocket water of some 3 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. On size it sits at the modest end of our Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region list. Conning Towers-Nautilus Park at 1.1 miles is the nearest place to stop. The nearest city of size is Hartford, 40 miles away. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region records list bluegill, black crappie, striped bass, largemouth bass and chain pickerel among the fish reported. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Fish Rock Pond where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Average temperature peaks around 72°F in July and bottoms out near 28°F in January. The year turns gently, without extremes at either end. It is not guaranteed from one year to the next. Late winter often fishes better here than midsummer does. Time your trip to Rock Pond by conditions rather than dates.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Launching is possible: a slipway lies half a mile off. Parking is mapped about 140 yards from the bank. Mapping shows a jetty some half a mile off. Picnic facilities are recorded some half a mile out. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Goss Cove at 0.6 miles is the sensible second choice. Nothing here settles the position at Rock Pond for certain.
