A clear night sky over the water, with enough NNE wind to stack food downwind and steady pressure. Whatever swims in Mill Pond should be near margins first, middle later. The useful hours run the day. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Mill Pond is a Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region water, Connecticut side. The shore lies 9.8 miles out. About 12 acres of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Supplies mean a trip to Salem, 2.6 miles off. Montville Center follows at 4.5 miles, then Oxoboxo River at 6 miles. The line between counties passes nearby, which can change who manages the water.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Open biodiversity records for Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region list bluegill, black crappie and striped bass. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Mill Pond gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
July runs about 71°F on average, January about 27°F. Temperature moves within a narrow band, and so does the fishing. Hard water here is never dependable, so check for yourself before stepping out. February into May fishes hardest as the water warms. The season on Mill Pond rarely departs from it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Horse Pond Car Top Boat Launch provides a boat ramp about half a mile away. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Fairy Lake at 0.4 miles is the sensible second choice. Confirm access to Mill Pond locally before you travel.
