Stars out and no cloud tonight, with mild air moving in from the N with a firming glass. The productive water at Hedden Pond will be around the shaded bank through the bright hours. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Hedden Pond sits within Northwest Hills Planning Region in Connecticut. The country here is pine and birch. You can fish the entire water from one spot if you pick it well. Our Northwest Hills Planning Region list holds plenty of bigger water. Canaan sits 10 miles from the bank. Waterbury sits 27 miles out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. County-wide records name bluegill, brown trout and largemouth bass. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Hedden Pond repays a walk before the first cast.
Averages move between 22°F in January and 69°F in July. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early April. On average, early April opens the water and mid December closes it again. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Hedden Pond fishes to that pattern most years.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. Expect a half a mile walk in from where the car goes. Facilities include toilets around half a mile from here. Town Open Space (Route 128) covers ground next to the water; its rules will apply on that side. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. If the gate is shut, Cream Hill Lake at 1.5 miles is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Hedden Pond in what we hold.
