Stars out and no cloud tonight, with just enough NNE wind to ripple the surface and pressure on the rise. Give the shaded bank through the bright hours the first hour at Ashland Pond. The day holds up well from the day. Let the water tell you when to move. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Ashland Pond is one of the Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region waters in Connecticut. What surrounds it is open valley. Around 89 acres of surface means several distinct areas to work. The edge runs 2.8 miles or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Some 0.8 miles away sits Jewett City, the nearest settlement. The big place round here is Providence, 32 miles distant. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Points where the flooded channel swings in are the reliable ones. Rip-rap along the wall holds fish that the open bank never does. Records held for Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region cover bluegill, black crappie, striped bass and largemouth bass. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Ashland Pond the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The seasonal spread runs 26°F to 71°F. Most months fish reasonably, given the right weather. It is not guaranteed from one year to the next. Late winter often fishes better here than midsummer does. Plan around that when you fish Ashland Pond. Autumn feeding runs harder as the light drops away.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Public data has parking about half a mile from the shore. There is a mapped landing stage half a mile away. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Hopeville Pond at 1.7 miles is the sensible second choice. What applies at Ashland Pond may have changed since it was mapped.
