Full sun on the water today, with light air out of the NE with the glass slipping lower. The fish at Woodland Park Reservoir are likely to sit near secondary points on the windward side. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

The Teller County end of Colorado holds Woodland Park Reservoir. Elevation runs to 9,163 feet. A pocket of water where every cast reaches cover. On size it sits at the modest end of our Teller County list. Woodland Park sits 2 miles from here and is the nearest stop. After that come Cascade-Chipita Park at 4.4 miles and Air Force Academy at 8.6 miles. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Teller County include brook trout, rainbow trout, black-spotted cutthroat trout, brown trout and lake trout. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Treat Woodland Park Reservoir as a water to read rather than to cover.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 58°F, while January sits near 21°F. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Open water usually runs from late April until about late November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. At Woodland Park Reservoir the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. Public toilets are recorded roughly half a mile off. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Failing this one, try Sapphire Lake, 1.5 miles away. None of that is settled for Woodland Park Reservoir in what we hold.
