Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a light WNW breeze with pressure dropping. On Muckey Lake, work any hard bottom among the soft first. Everything points to the morning. Small adjustments will matter more than big moves. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Look for Muckey Lake in the Summit County part of Colorado. The bank gives way to pine and birch. It is pond-in-a-field scale, with the far bank a short lob away. On size it sits at the modest end of our Summit County list. For supplies, Basalt is 12 miles out. Further out sit Eagle (12 miles) and Gypsum (12 miles). The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Survey and observation records for Summit County include brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout and black-spotted cutthroat trout. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. The shape of Muckey Lake decides where the fish sit.
Averages move between 17°F in January and 55°F in July. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from mid May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about mid May until roughly mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. At Muckey Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. A camping area sits within half a mile of here. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Sundell Reservoir, 1.6 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Ask locally about Muckey Lake if anything is unclear.
