A wide-open sky and strong sun today, with a gentle ripple from the NNW and the barometer heading up. On Enochs Lake, work the seam between weed and open water first. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Look for Enochs Lake in the Mesa County part of Colorado. This is rolling bush ground. About 18 acres of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Nearest town is Redlands, 16 miles off. Orchard Mesa lies 16 miles off, Grand Junction another 17 miles. No border sits close enough to matter. The water is easy to walk round in a long session.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Held water runs deepest at the wall and shallows back to the inflow. Built water gives depth close in, which suits a bank angler. Fish documented in Mesa County include flannelmouth sucker, bluehead sucker, green sunfish and white sucker. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. At Enochs Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Temperature averages peak at 64°F in July and bottom out at 22°F in January. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near mid April. Averages suggest open water from about mid April through to roughly early December. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. It holds true on Enochs Lake more years than not.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Should this one be busy, Gobbo Reservoir Number 3 is 0.7 miles off. Check the current arrangement for Enochs Lake.
