A bright day with hardly any cloud, with a light chop building from the NNW with a softening glass. Start the search at Summit Reservoir along points and the old channel edges. Bank on the evening and treat the rest as bonus. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Set in Solano County, Summit Reservoir is a California water. The sea is 5.2 miles distant. About 5 acres of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Our Solano County list holds plenty of bigger water. The town to know is American Canyon, 2.5 miles out. Further out sit Vallejo (3.8 miles) and Crockett (7 miles). Being near a boundary, it pays to know which side you are fishing.
We hold no depth figure for this one. The old creek line under the surface is the feature worth finding. Points where the flooded channel swings in are the reliable ones. Open biodiversity records for Solano County list striped bass, Chinook salmon, common carp and Sacramento sucker. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Summit Reservoir the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Seasonal averages run from 47°F in December up to 71°F in July. There is no frozen season to plan round. March through May is the strongest run, with autumn a second stretch. November and March are the quiet, comfortable months to be out. Expect Summit Reservoir to follow that timing.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Parking sits half a mile out, which makes for a walk with tackle. There is a toilet block some half a mile out. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. For a change of water, Lake Dalwigk is 4.3 miles distant. Rules at Summit Reservoir are worth checking on the day.
