Clear conditions and high sun today, with an easy breeze from the NW as pressure builds. Expect most activity at Rock Creek Lake around the seam between weed and open water. A steady middling day from end to end. Change depth before you change anything else. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Night
Rock Creek Lake falls in Placer County, part of California. The setting is open plain on every side. Surface area is around 35 acres, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The bank runs about 1.1 miles all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Head to North Auburn, 1.1 miles away, for anything you forgot. Auburn is 3.4 miles away, with Meadow Vista at 5.2 miles. The county line runs close by, so rules can change within a short drive.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The old creek line under the surface is the feature worth finding. Standing timber shows when the level drops, and fish sit against it. Species logged across Placer County include sockeye salmon, rainbow trout, tahoe sucker and brook trout. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Anyone new to Rock Creek Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Typical July readings run about 77°F; by January the average is down near 45°F. The awkward stretch is midsummer, not midwinter. Late winter and spring fish steadiest here. November and March are the quiet, comfortable months to be out. Rock Creek Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
No access rule appears in what we hold. A car park sits roughly half a mile away. There is a recognised fishing place here: PG&E Rock Creek Lake Fishing Access, half a mile off. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Halsey Forebay, 3.2 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing on Rock Creek Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
