A bright day with hardly any cloud, with a faint SW drift with the glass slipping lower. The fish at Lake Lois are likely to sit near shallow cover and weed edges. A long productive spell runs the day. Make the first hour count and build on it. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Set in El Dorado County, California, this is Lake Lois. Everything around it is farm and woodlot. It measures about 26 acres, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The town to know is Tahoma, 11 miles out. South Lake Tahoe is 12 miles and Sunnyside-Tahoe City 16 miles. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end. Nothing about the approach is difficult in dry weather.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across El Dorado County include rainbow trout, sockeye salmon, brook trout and bluegill. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The near bank of Lake Lois is often the one people ignore.
The year swings from about 28°F in December to roughly 58°F in August. The season stretches long at both ends here. It is not guaranteed from one year to the next. November and March are the quiet, comfortable months to be out. The season on Lake Lois rarely departs from it. Overcast days spread the fishing across more hours.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lake Doris sits 0.8 miles off and takes the overflow. Nothing here settles the position at Lake Lois for certain.
