Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with dead-still conditions with pressure dropping. Start the search at Draper Lake along the shaded margin through bright spells. The productive run goes the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Draper Lake is one of the La Paz County listings for Arizona. What surrounds it is sage and rock. It lies lower than most water we list in Arizona. Some 30 miles away sits Yuma, the nearest settlement. For a city, El Cajon is 134 miles off. Also on the doorstep: Walker Lake 2.9 miles away, Cowbell Lake about 4 miles, Cibola Lake 5.7 miles away, Adobe Lake about 8.2 miles and Nortons Lake 8.6 miles away. A county boundary sits nearby, which can matter for local access rules.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Documented catches and surveys in the area cover bluegill, channel catfish, flathead catfish, blue catfish and common carp. The records cover the area rather than this water alone. At Draper Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
The year swings from about 56°F in December to roughly 94°F in July. The calendar barely matters here; the time of day does. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer squeezes it into the edges of the day. April and May are the settled weeks, with October close behind. The season on Draper Lake rarely departs from it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Walker Lake, 2.9 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Draper Lake for certain.
