Stars out and no cloud tonight, with mild air moving in from the ESE and pressure on the rise. Start the search at Cascade Lake along sheltered bays and points. The productive run goes night into morning. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

This water sits in Mono County, California. The bank is 10,325 feet above sea level. The water measures roughly 8 acres, so nothing here is far from anything else. You are 23 miles from Yosemite Valley. Beyond it, Mammoth Lakes at 30 miles and Midpines at 45 miles. Nearby, in order: Steelhead Lake near enough 0.3 miles, Wasco Lake at about 0.6 miles, Z Lake near enough 0.7 miles, Shamrock Lake at about 0.7 miles and Twin Lakes near enough 0.9 miles. No border sits close enough to matter.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Open biodiversity records for Mono County list brook trout, rainbow trout and brown trout. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Cascade Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Average temperature peaks around 51°F in August and bottoms out near 20°F in February. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from mid June. On average, mid June opens the water and mid November closes it again. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Plan around that when you fish Cascade Lake.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Failing this one, try Steelhead Lake, 0.3 miles away. None of that is settled for Cascade Lake in what we hold.
