Overcast skies today, with an easy breeze from the NE and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Long Slough should come off slack behind obstructions. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Long Slough belongs to Miller County, Arkansas. The country here is open plain. The water covers some 89 acres, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Queen City at 10 miles is the nearest place to stop. Texarkana is 12 miles away, with Atlanta at 12 miles. Near neighbours include: Smith Lake sits 1 mile out, Goss Lake about 2.7 miles, Crabtree Lake sits 3.8 miles out, Little Pond about 5.3 miles and Davis Lake sits 6 miles out. Rules can differ a short way off, since the county line is near.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Records collected within a few miles name goldstripe darter, Alligator gar, longnose gar and redear sunfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Fish Long Slough where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
The warm month here averages 82°F; the cold one sits at 43°F. Heat sets the pattern from late spring onward. March through May is the strongest run, with autumn a second stretch. April and May are the settled weeks, with October close behind. It sets the rhythm of the year at Long Slough.
Our records carry no access rule either way. A ramp is mapped within half a mile. You can leave the car about half a mile from the water. Catfish want bait on the bottom: cut bait or worms, a simple running rig, and patience after dark. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Smith Lake, 1 mile away, makes the obvious fallback. For Long Slough in particular, ask before you travel.
