Flat light and a covered sky today, with flat calm through the day with a firming glass. The fish at Pan Lake are likely to sit near structure within a cast of the bank. A stay-home graph, with the night as the one excuse to go. Save the long walk for a better forecast. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Pan Lake lies within the bounds of Kenai Peninsula Borough, Alaska. Tidal water begins 12 miles from here. It covers about 10 acres, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Our Kenai Peninsula Borough list holds plenty of bigger water. Start from Sterling, 18 miles down the road. Further out sit Funny River (20 miles) and Ridgeway (24 miles). The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Kenai Peninsula Borough cover northern pike, sockeye salmon, rainbow trout and Coho salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The near bank of Pan Lake is often the one people ignore.
Long-run averages give July about 57°F and January about 16°F. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Open water usually runs from late April until about early November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Pan Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Access is not recorded for this water. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Mouse Lake sits 0.2 miles off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Pan Lake in what we hold.
