Stars out and no cloud tonight, with a light chop building from the NNE and pressure on the rise. Miles Lake should fish best around the shallows early and the drop later today. The day holds up well from afternoon into evening. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Miles Lake in the Chugach Census Area part of Alaska. The setting is pine and birch. Around 8.8 sq miles of open water: conditions change from one end to the other. Around 49 miles of margin, so directions matter more than a general plan. It is the biggest water on our Chugach Census Area list. Cordova sits 39 miles from the bank. The big place round here is Anchorage, 180 miles distant. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. This is tidal water: the state of the tide decides where fish sit, so plan the session around it. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. County-wide records name Chum salmon, pink salmon and Pacific cod. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. The shape of Miles Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
The warm month here averages 55°F; the cold one sits at 13°F. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. The lid tends to go about late April and return around early November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Miles Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. For a change of water, Van Cleve Lake is 9.5 miles distant. Check the position on Miles Lake before loading the car.
