Flat light and a covered sky today, with air barely moving and no real change in pressure. Give reed fringes and open pockets the first hour at Lake Marge. The forecast backs the stretch from night into morning. Settle in and let the day develop. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lake Marge falls in Prince of Wales-Hyder Census Area, part of Alaska. This is mixed woodland country. With some 98 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The whole outline is near 2.1 miles, and most of it is walkable. Start from Craig, 30 miles down the road. After that come Ketchikan at 35 miles and Metlakatla at 38 miles. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for Prince of Wales-Hyder Census Area include pink salmon, Chum salmon, Chinook salmon, Coho salmon and sockeye salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The shape of Lake Marge decides where the fish sit.
The warmest month averages 54°F, the coldest about 32°F. Some winters cap it and some do not. In a normal year the cover is thin and short-lived. April and May are the settled weeks, with October close behind. Lake Marge fishes to that pattern most years. Short days concentrate it into a narrow window.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Summit Lake sits 1.1 miles off and takes the overflow. Check the position at Lake Marge before loading the car.
