Wind the main story today, with a consistent blow out of the SE with the glass slipping lower. The water to cover at Clear Lakes is the shallows early and the drop later. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Clear Lakes is one of the Nome Census Area waters in Alaska. The setting is taiga on every side. The water covers some 156 acres, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Around 2.0 miles of margin, front to back. The nearest town is Nome, 119 miles away. Anchorage is the closest city, 424 miles away. Nearest other option: Puyuk Lake after 0.6 miles and Zagoskin Lake at 4.3 miles. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Open biodiversity records for Nome Census Area list Arctic grayling, antlered sculpin, threaded sculpin and hamecon. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. At Clear Lakes the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
On the long-term average, July reads 55°F and January reads 4°F. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late May. Average temperatures cross freezing around late May in spring and again near late October in autumn. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. The season on Clear Lakes follows the weather closely.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Puyuk Lake, 0.6 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Clear Lakes in what we hold.
