No direct sun expected today, with just enough S wind to ripple the surface and pressure going nowhere. Give the first drop-off and weed lines the first hour at Drumboy Lough. Plan around the stretch from night into morning. Keep moving until you find them. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

The Newry Mourne and Down entry here is Drumboy Lough, in Northern Ireland. Height above sea level is 230 feet. 2.9 miles away sits Crossmaglen, the nearest town. Newtownhamilton is 10 miles and Newry 15 miles. Other water nearby: Lough Ross about 3.1 miles, 4.5 miles out stands Lough Alina, Clay Lake about 14 miles, 26 miles out stands Silent Valley Reservoir and Lough Island Reavy about 28 miles. No area boundary comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Across Newry Mourne and Down, recorded fish include Atlantic salmon, rainbow trout and European eel. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Work Drumboy Lough in sections rather than trying to cover it.
The year swings from about 4°C in January to roughly 15°C in July. A lid forms in a hard winter only. It is not guaranteed even in a cold spell, so check yourself. February into May fishes hardest as the water warms. On Drumboy Lough the same rules apply, with local timing. Nights draw in quickly late in the season, so plan the walk back.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Lough Ross at 3.1 miles is the nearest alternative. Ask locally about Drumboy Lough if anything is unclear.
