Soft grey light all day today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SW and steady pressure. Expect most activity at Stantons around shallow cover and weed edges. A long productive spell runs night into morning. Make the first hour count and build on it. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Stantons is a Norfolk water, England side. Tidal water begins 0.3 miles from here. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our England listings. Snettisham lies 2.2 miles from the water. Peterborough is the closest city, 35 miles away. In the same area: Shepherds 0.2 miles, Saham Mere out at 25 miles and Scoulton Mere 28 miles. No boundary runs near, so the local byelaws hold throughout.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Time trips to the tide table rather than the clock here. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. County-wide records name European eel, roach, brown trout and northern pike. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The near bank of Stantons is often the one people ignore.
The range across the year is 4°C to 16°C. A long season, with weather mattering more than the month. In a normal year the cover is thin and short-lived. The hot months push the fishing to dawn and dusk. Stantons runs to that rhythm year in and year out. Spring fish sit shallower than most people expect.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. You can leave the car about half a mile from the water. RSPB Snettisham covers this ground, which means extra rules to check. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Shepherds, 0.2 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat Stantons as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
