• Where to Fish on Redmires

No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Draw-down through summer strips the margins, so follow the water out. Look for where the old bank line still shows under the surface. County-wide records name brown trout, rainbow trout, perch and gudgeon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Redmires responds to conditions more than to tactics.

• Seasonal Patterns

On the long-term average, July reads 14°C and February reads 2°C. The freeze here is occasional rather than annual. Cover comes and goes, so treat it with suspicion rather than trust. The hot months push the fishing to dawn and dusk. At Redmires the season follows that pattern closely.

• Tackle & Baits

Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. A car park sits roughly 70 yards away. Hammond's Field covers ground next to the water; its rules will apply on that side. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. For a change of water, Ladybower Reservoir is 4.5 miles distant. Check the position on Redmires before loading the car.
