Soft grey light all day today, with dead-still conditions and pressure sitting still. Activity on Kiyera Lake should centre on the shaded margin through bright spells. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Cold hands, careful casts: precision is everything today.

Kiyera Lake falls in Southeast Fairbanks Census Area, part of Alaska. The bank is 3,337 feet above sea level. With some 211 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Around 3.6 miles of bank, which is a long day on foot. Compared with other Alaska water on our list, it sits high. Some 149 miles away sits Whitehorse, the nearest settlement. Beyond it, Dawson City at 158 miles and Tok at 167 miles. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Our records hold no depth for this water. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Southeast Fairbanks Census Area records list Arctic grayling, lake whitefish, lake trout, longnose sucker and round whitefish among the fish reported. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Anyone new to Kiyera Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Averages move between -10°F in January and 53°F in July. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Look for the thaw near mid May; the fishing lifts straight after. From about mid May to around mid October, expect open water on the long-run figures. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Expect Kiyera Lake to follow that timing.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. For a change of water, Tincup Lake is 9.6 miles distant. None of that is settled for Kiyera Lake in what we hold.
