Fog sitting on the water this morning, with just enough NE wind to ripple the surface with a settled glass. Fish at Jaeger Lake should hold close to windblown banks where food collects. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Within Dawson, Yukon, you have Jaeger Lake. The water sits 1,190 metres up. Surface area runs to about 8 hectares — small enough to read in one session. It is a small entry by Dawson standards. Dawson City sits 81 km from the bank. Tok is 267 km and Deltana 342 km. Within easy reach: Two Moose Lake 14 km, Fold Lake 15 km away, Azure Lake 19 km, Divide Lake 20 km away and Caldwell Lake 22 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Fish documented in Dawson include Arctic grayling, Chinook salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Jaeger Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July to average close to 11°C, with January the cold end at about -24°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Look for the thaw near early June; the fishing lifts straight after. Expect the water usable from around early June until roughly early October. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Jaeger Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Should this one be busy, Two Moose Lake is 14 km off. For Jaeger Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
