Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with light air out of the SSE and pressure sitting still. The fish at Petit lac Violon are likely to sit near the shaded margin through bright spells. The day fishes best from night into morning. Pick two or three spots and rotate them. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Within Mauricie, Quebec, you have Petit lac Violon. The surface lies 261 metres up. It covers about 5 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Laurentides is the closest place, 16 km off. Further out sit Sainte-Thècle (22 km) and Saint-Ubalde (30 km). The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker among the fish reported. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Anyone new to Petit lac Violon should walk it once before setting up.
The year swings from about -15°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. It holds true on Petit lac Violon more years than not.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. There is a campsite 670 m from the water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Violon at 0.9 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing here settles the position at Petit lac Violon for certain.
