Solid cloud cover today, with the surface near flat and no real change in pressure. On Petit lac Cabasta, work windblown banks where food collects first. A workmanlike forecast: no peak, no collapse. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

The Lanaudière end of Quebec holds Petit lac Cabasta. It sits at 434 metres above sea level. With some 33 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Around 5.6 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. On our Lanaudière list it sits near the top for size. The nearest place of any size is Manawan, 34 km away. For a city, Trois-Rivières is 199 km off. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Lanaudière: pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Read Petit lac Cabasta for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Averages move between -16°C in January and 16°C in July. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Petit lac Cabasta fishes to that pattern most years.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. The nearest alternative is Lac Jef, 1.9 km out. Confirm access to Petit lac Cabasta locally before you travel.
