A grey, even sky over the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the S and the barometer holding steady. The water to cover at LacPat is sheltered bays and points. A stay-home graph, with the morning as the one excuse to go. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Look for LacPat in the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean part of Quebec. The bank is 437 metres above sea level. Labrecque lies 52 km from the water. For a city, Saguenay is 81 km off. Close neighbours run: Lac Dick within 0.6 km, Lac Croche at 0.8 km, Lac Plat within 1.4 km, Lac Francois at 1.9 km and Lac Vincent within 2.1 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. At LacPat light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Climate normals give 16°C for July and -19°C for January. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. The water is typically free of ice between early May and mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. It sets the rhythm of the year at LacPat.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Lac Dick, 0.6 km away. Treat access at LacPat as something to verify.
