Cloud coming and going through the night, with a mirror surface most of the day and no real change in pressure. The water to cover at Lac Whiskey is the first drop-off and weed lines. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Whiskey is listed under Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec. It lies 350 metres above sea level. At some 3.55 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. At about 28 km of edge, most people fish a single area and learn it well. It ranks high for size among our Abitibi-Témiscamingue listings. Val-d'Or at 101 km is the nearest place to stop. After that come Senneterre at 117 km and Malartic at 120 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. County-wide records name northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Work Lac Whiskey in sections rather than trying to cover it.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -16°C. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly late November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Lac Whiskey fishes to that pattern most years.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Overnight stays are possible about 770 m out, where camping is mapped. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. If the gate is shut, Lac Montbeil at 2 km is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Lac Whiskey in what we hold.
