Overcast skies today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the S and no real change in pressure. On Lac Westland, work the calm side of the wind first. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

In Quebec, Lac Westland belongs to Laurentides. It stands 197 metres above sea level. At about 15 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Bank access stretches around 1.6 km in total. It lies lower than most water we list in Quebec. Saint-Raphaël sits 24 km from the bank. It is 73 km to Gatineau, the nearest city. Being near a boundary, it pays to know which side you are fishing.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Laurentides, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Lac Westland that means starting tight and working out.
On the long-term average, July reads 19°C and January reads -13°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near early December. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. At Lac Westland the season follows that pattern closely.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Chat, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Lac Westland in particular, ask before you travel.
