A grey, even sky over the water, with a soft SW wind and pressure going nowhere. Whatever swims in Lac Walter should be near windblown banks where food collects. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the evening. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Look for Lac Walter in the Côte-Nord part of Quebec. The sea is 20 km distant. About 5 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. On size it sits at the modest end of our Côte-Nord list. Baie-Comeau sits 58 km from here and is the nearest stop. The nearest city of size is Saguenay, 287 km away. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Reported across Côte-Nord: logperch. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. The near bank of Lac Walter is often the one people ignore.
Between January at about -15°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. The season on Lac Walter rarely departs from it.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac Dick at 1.6 km is the sensible second choice. Signs at Lac Walter carry more weight than any list.
