Solid cloud cover today, with just enough NNE wind to ripple the surface and steady pressure. The fish at Lac Wabatasi are likely to sit near points where shallow meets deep. Plan around the stretch from night into morning. Keep moving until you find them. Biting air and slow fish: small baits, long pauses.

Lac Wabatasi is a Nord-du-Québec water, Quebec side. It stands 209 metres above sea level. At some 3.37 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. There is roughly 14 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. Ground here is low by Quebec standards. Kuujjuaq lies 106 km from the water. Beyond it, Nain at 428 km and Labrador City at 481 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Nord-du-Québec cover Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Lac Wabatasi repays a walk before the first cast.
Seasonal averages run from -25°C in January up to 11°C in July. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early June. Open water usually runs from early June until about late October. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. That shapes the year on Lac Wabatasi.
We hold no note on access for this one. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Failing this one, try Lac Jogues, 3.8 km away. Check the current arrangement for Lac Wabatasi.
