Heavy overcast holding through the day, with light air out of the NNW and pressure sitting still. On Lac Vulcain, work bays that hold the day's warmth first. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the morning. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short. A hard-frost feel to the day; keep expectations modest.

The Côte-Nord end of Quebec holds Lac Vulcain. The bank is 501 metres above sea level. Roughly 3.34 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. Shoreline length is close to 17 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Few waters listed in Côte-Nord are bigger. Labrador City lies 248 km from the water. Beyond it, Wabush at 254 km and Fermont at 266 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name logperch. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Fish Lac Vulcain where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Expect July to average close to 12°C, with January the cold end at about -25°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early June. Ice clears near early June and comes back about late October in a typical year. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Expect Lac Vulcain to follow that timing.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Failing this one, try Lac Pluton, 5 km away. Ask locally about Lac Vulcain if anything is unclear.
