Gusty conditions over the water today, with a persistent wind from the SSW with a settled glass. Start the search at Lac Verreault along the seam between weed and open water. The strongest window runs from the day. Keep expectations modest and fish carefully. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Verreault is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean waters in Quebec. It lies 419 metres above sea level. At 8 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Métabetchouan lies 32 km from the water. Saguenay sits 81 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Within a short drive: Lac Croche (1.1 km), Lac Regis a touch under 1.3 km, Lac Huard (2.2 km), Lac Goyette a touch under 2.7 km and Lac Cote (2.9 km). It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Public occurrence data for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean names northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Lac Verreault fishes better once you know its edges.
Seasonal averages run from -17°C in January up to 17°C in July. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. The season on Lac Verreault rarely departs from it.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. If the gate is shut, Lac Croche at 1.1 km is the nearest alternative.
