Overcast skies today, with mild air moving in from the S and steady pressure. The fish at Lac Valade are likely to sit near the calm side of the wind. The day peaks in the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lac Valade lies in Laurentides, Quebec. The water sits 273 metres up. About 5 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. The closest town, Rivière-Rouge, is 3.3 km away. Saint-Louis-de-Terrebonne is the closest city, 117 km away. Not far off: Petit lac Lanthier after 1.8 km, Lac Cloche a touch under 2 km, Lac Lanthier after 2.5 km, Lac Malo a touch under 2.6 km and Lac Scott after 2.8 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth figures are not published for this one. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. On Lac Valade that means starting tight and working out.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -14°C. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Anyone fishing Lac Valade regularly works to that calendar.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. For a change of water, Petit lac Lanthier is 1.8 km distant. Check the position on Lac Valade before loading the car.
