A closed sky with even light today, with a working SSW breeze with a settled glass. Give any hard bottom among the soft the first hour at Lac Trilla. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Trilla belongs to Lanaudière, Quebec. The water sits 513 metres up. Small at around 2 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Our Lanaudière list holds plenty of bigger water. Nearest place of any size is Saint-Michel-des-Saints, 40 km away. After that come Manawan at 49 km and Rivière-Rouge at 53 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Fish documented in Lanaudière include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac Trilla the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -16°C in January. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. At Lac Trilla the season follows that pattern closely.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. The nearest alternative is Lac Chalus, 0.2 km out. Where Lac Trilla is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
